Three Kings Celebration

The Three Kings Celebration on Sunday, January 7, 2007 at Honey Creek Presbyterian Church in New Carlisle was a wonderful, spirit filled, joyous worship celebration with about 120 people in attendance.

Hispanics from several Presbyterian churches participated, including New Carlisle, Sidney, Dayton, Xenia, Troy, Lebanon, Springfield.

Rev. Denise Ingram, pastor of Honey Creek Presbyterian Church welcomed everyone. A drama celebrating the birth of the baby Jesus our Savior, the arrival of the shepherds, the angels, and the journey of the Magi to see the newborn king was carried out by Hispanic young people and adults.

A band and singing group comprised of people from several congregations played typical Latino carols mixed with some traditional English carols in Spanish.  Lali and Javier Rebollo, Lebanon participated through prayer and music, Carmen Rodriguez from Xenia Memorial played a flute solo to Silent Night, Cristian Ruiz, First, Troy played a drum solo. Omar David Bolivar, Sidney read scriptures, Rev. Francisco Pelaez, College Hill and Rev. Jayne L. Ruiz, Coordinator for Hispanic Ministries both gave brief meditations about the meaning of the Epiphany celebration in the Christian tradition, its importance in Hispanic culture, of giving ourselves completely to Jesus Christ and in being faithful followers to Christ’s call.

David Dominguez Solis from Covenant Springfield gave the invitation for people to commit and to recommit their lives to Christ.

Dinner was a mixture of traditional Latino foods such as menudo, rosca (a type of cake) tortillas, along with traditional American foods.

Thanks to a generous donation from the Presbyterian Youth Connections Council, we were able to buy toys for the children and blankets for the families. A special thanks to all the volunteers who practiced long hours, helped organize everything, and to the members of Honey Creek who worked in the kitchen, etc.  Muchas gracias to all.
