The
Rev. Jayne Ruiz, former Miami Presbytery Hispanic Ministries
Coordinator and current Minister Member of Miami Presbytery, received the
Alma Latina Award for her work with Hispanic communities on September 20.
The award recognizes
people who have carried out exceptional service in the Hispanic
communities in the Dayton and Miami Valley areas and is sponsored by the
University of Dayton. This is the fourth year the award has been given.
During Jayne's
service as Hispanic Ministries Coordinator she raised more than $350,000
in grants to help community ministries with the poor not only with
Presbyterians, but many other community agencies and self development
groups from many religious and racial ethnic backgrounds.
Rev. Ruiz has worked
with immigrants from more than 50 countries throughout her ministry and
currently serves as the Hispanic/Latino Minister at the St. Paul United
Methodist Church in Dayton.
