Synod of the Covenant
Mobile Health Fair serves more than 300 people
at five sites in Miami Presbytery

June  2007

Synod of the Covenant Mobile Health Fair Team and Miami Presbytery worked in partnership this summer to carry out Health Fairs at five different sties: The Wesley Center-Dayton, Dayton Urban Ministry, Fairmont Presbyterian Church, Good Shepherd Community Church, and at Honey Creek Presbyterian Church.

Over 300 persons from a variety of communities within our presbytery, including farm workers, elderly, youth, and children in rural and urban settings, were served through these fairs. Participants came from underserved populations. Over 40 community agencies participated at the different sites educating on vital programs and services. All of the volunteers were dedicated, energetic, and we are grateful for all of the time that they donated to making the Health Fairs a success.

The Rev. Nancy Draves said, “The team from the Synod was fabulous and so caring.” At Good Shepherd, they report giving away 43 free bicycle helmets provided by Children’s Medical Center (Dayton, OH) with over 100 plus in attendance.

At Dayton Urban Ministry over 50 children and youth and about 25 adults were served and all the staff there felt that it was a great success. Many of the
young people enjoyed it so much that they wanted to go back through the second time.

At Honey Creek, rural Hispanics were served, the majority of whom have no health insurance.

At Fairmont, a variety of people from age and ethnic backgrounds were served and obtained valuable information from many community agencies.

At the Wesley Center a number of African-American elderly were served through this Fair.

We wish to thank all the wonderful volunteers, the agencies who brought invaluable information, and the dedicated Health Fair Team at the Synod of the Covenant.

Muchas Gracias.

Rev. Jayne L. Ruiz, Miami Presbytery
